Near-Shore Hydrographical Surveying is offered by Fox McMaster Surveyors to record depths of water and provide a 'topographical' survey of the river bed or harbour base for example.
This Surveying can be done using Total Stations and GPS Surveying equipment in conjunction with sonar devices attached to the boat. For simple surveying on small ponds for example, the boat acts as means of transport on the surface of the water by which the surveyor can pilot about, dipping into the water a means of measurement such as a weighted line or staff and recording the depth to the surface at that given point from the shore by means of a previously positioned Total Station or EDM.
This means that volume calculations for ponds, reservoir etc can be calculated safely and simply with an AutoCAD dwg format drawing being available if so wished.
Additionally, a small boat can be easily transported on the roof of our Land Rover to largely inaccessible points.
